JoAnn Deak, Ph.D., is an international speaker, educator, and school psychologist. She is a consultant to schools worldwide on issues of brain development, gender equity, and optimal learning environments for boys and girls. She earned her Ph.D. at Kent State University, specializing in Primary Prevention and Systems Intervention. Currently, Dr. Deak is concentrating on consulting with professional and lay organizations around the world, lecturing, speaking and writing. Dr. Deak will address Scituate on how to create a culture of community and caring in our schools and beyond.

She has published the following books:
  • The Book of Hopes and Dreams for Girls and Young Women
  • Girls Will Be Girls: Raising Confident and Courageous Daughters, with Teresa Barker
  • How Girls Thrive
Renowned for her knowledge of what makes girls tick, Dr. Deak brings together stories and lessons from more than 20 years experience and introduces original concepts as a framework to help parents better understand their daughters. Deak offers a comprehensive road map to the many emotional and physical challenges girls ages six to sixteen face in today's challenging world.

Dr. Deak will address the Scituate community on issues related to creating a culture of community and caring in our schools. She will offer parents and teachers tips on how to confront and manage the issue of bullying and raising responsible children in today's world.
